I really like the way that you hve chosen to use this document. Having insight into the impression and general sentiment conveyed on the people by both of the structures you plan to compare can tell you a lot about the buildings themselves. Whether or not a particular structure was popular at the time it was built can say a lot about how people might feel about it today, or how it shaped the history of those people (good for a change over time angle). Great work!","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"6946079","dateCreated":"1226530854","smartDate":"Nov 12, 2008","userCreated":{"username":"alexandraganapes","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/alexandraganapes","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/classicalgala.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/6946079"},"dateDigested":1532286244,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Journal III","description":"This document will be very helpful in learning more about the Hagia Sophia and why it was built. I plan to compare the Byzantine Hagia Sophia and the Ottoman Suleymaniye. Both of them are very similar, specifically in structure and I wanted to identify why exactly that was.
\n
\nThis account was written when Hagia Sophia was built, which gives me insight into the impression it had on people at the time. People now might think a structure is particularly attractive, but perhaps back then it was built by thousands of slave laborers or was simply considered ugly. However, as this document proves, neither was the case. Procopius was a government worker, but he doesn't appear to have too much of a bias.
\n
\nHe also describes what exactly it was about the Hagia Sophia that made it so appealing, specifically the space and light. He also describes how those special aspects of the church were significant and what they meant to people, specifically Greek Orthodox followers.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
